I've a Beltona Blue uke. It's a fiberglass uke with a biscuit cone. I've had a great time with it, but want to tackle one of my own. Since it's fiberglass, the well is built as one piece with the body. In short, there is little to learn from this uke about how to construct a reso from traditional materials. I'd like to build a wood one (and later brass) and need to build the well. I've laminated 1/2" maple and plan to turn the well on the lath. Is this the right approach? Is there another/easier/better way? |

G.B., I haven't seen a Reso-Uke apart so I can only guess it may be similar to a guitar in a scaled down version. If it is a sound-well it could be laminated around a form with veneer. If it's a ring it could be made from a good grade of Plywood. |

I've not made a uke (yet) but for guitars I usually cut out the ring from ply and then laminate the sides of the well around it using birch modellers' ply. It's long-winded but I don't like having thick walls for the well. Incidentally, Fine Resophonics are about to start producing dobro-style uke spider cones and spider bridges. Details here |

I've had a line on the Fine Reophnics cones since their inception. I have a National cone and bicuit under my bench. I want to get one or two of these under my belt before I buy the fine reso spider cone. Geoff |
